QUESTIONS FROM POTENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS
Q. Can I go to any college or university? Or does it have to be somewhere in Arizona?
A. The current program is limited to students accepted to or enrolled at Arizona State University (ASU) or any school in the Maricopa community college system.
Q. What is the application deadline?
A. The application timeline is detailed in the individual fund information provided by the Arizona Community Foundation (ACF). Visit www.azfoundation.org for details.
Q. Can I re-apply every year or is there a "lifetime" limit to the amount I can receive?
A. The current scholarship funds have a renewal opportunity, limited to three renewals.
Q. Am I still eligible if I am receiving other scholarships?
A. Yes, if the applicant meets all criteria and qualifications.
Q. Do I need to be admitted somewhere before I can apply?
A. You must be accepted to or currently registered at ASU or any school in the Maricopa community college system.
Q. I probably don't qualify for federal aid through FAFSA; do I still have to fill out the FAFSA paperwork to be eligible?
A. Yes, it is a requirement of the ACF fund administrator.
Q. Where can I get information about the Federal Student Aid program?
A. That information is available through your local academic counselor.
Q. Am I eligible to apply for aid to a graduate program?
A. Yes, but the details of each scholarship may limit which scholarship you may apply for.
Q. Can I apply if I was raised in an LGBT household? Or do I have to be gay?
A. The current Pride Scholarship Funds have criteria requirements that limit eligibility to only self-identified LGBT individuals.
QUESTIONS FROM POTENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP DONORS
Q. Can I name a scholarship after someone?
A. The financial donor of a specific scholarship fund can request specific naming of a scholarship, with the approval of ACF.
Q. Can I designate the money be directed to a particular student?
A. No. Scholarships through this program are open applications and awarded to the most qualified applicant. Donations given to a specific person under IRS rules are taxable income and not eligible for nonprofit status.
Q. Can I designate the money for a particular school or department?
A. Yes. The determination of the criteria and designation can be requested by the donor, subject to approval by ACF.
Q. Can I be part of the decision-making team that awards the scholarships?
A. Yes. You can be an advisor to the selection committee of ACF. The selection committee of ACF has the final decision authority under the agreement of the Pride Scholarship Program.
Q. Is my donation tax-deductible?
A. Yes. Your donation will be a tax-deductible donation thru Phoenix Pride, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to the fullest extent of the law.
